SOCIAL DISTANCING: DOS AND DON’TS

SOCIAL DISTANCING: DOS AND DON’TS

- April 26, 2020

  1. Do not leave the house if you have signs/symptoms or diagnosis of Covid-19 unless you are going to the hospital. Going to public places increases the risks of spreading the virus to others through coughing, sneezing, talking, touching, and/or contaminating surfaces
  2. Do not shake hands/hugs and avoid physical contacts with others at home at all costs if you are not living alone when you are in quarantine with suspected or confirmed Covid-19 diagnosis
  3. Do not leave the house unless you must go out for necessary errands. Stay inside as much as possible
  4. Do encourage telecommuting or teleworking in your workplace to facilitate remote working and reduce the risks associated with physical contacts with co-workers
  5. Do wear face masks and/or gloves in public areas and carry hand sanitizers with you to decrease the risks of contamination. Masks protect us and others by keeping our germs to ourselves, and gloves help avoid the contact with the virus, but does not prevent germs completely
  6. Do practice appropriate social distance in public places by maintaining 6 feet (1.8 metres) distance from others
  7. Do use curb-side pick-up or at home delivery of the groceries when possible to avoid public places. You could call the local store and pre-order items so that by the time you reach there; it is all ready for you
  8. Do wash your hands and/or use hand sanitizer as soon as you exit the grocery store to avoid any potential contamination
  9. Do not forget to wash your hands after unpacking and putting away your groceries
  10. Do not forget to wash and disinfect surfaces used to unpack your groceries
  11. Do not invite your friends over for dinner or to chill out. The purpose of social distancing is to avoid close contact with outsiders and reduce the spread of this deadly virus that has taken thousands of lives
  12. Do clean surfaces constantly. Coronavirus can stay on surfaces or mail for several hours/days. To be specific, studies have shown that the virus is viable for up to 72 hours on plastics, 48 hours on stainless steel, 24 hours on cardboard, and 4 hours on copper and detectable in the air for three hours
  13. Do not pick up your postal package at the front door with bare hands but with gloves or tissues. Keep the package isolated in your garage for at least 24 hours before opening to avoid any risk of contamination
  14. Do not touch your lips, mouth, eyes, or nose after touching non disinfected surfaces. Cover your mouth if you sneeze or cough. Touching your face with unwashed hands can lead to an infection. That is why it is important to wash your hands 4-5 times a day
  15. Do get tested if you are experiencing Covid-19 signs/symptoms. Symptoms include fatigue, shortness of breath, sore throat, dry cough, and fever. Go to the hospital or seek medical attention with these symptoms. It also helps to stay in isolation if you experience any of these symptoms. Save your life and others
  16. Do not travel if you don’t have to; non-essential traveling is currently ill-advised. Coronavirus spreads through airborne droplets and traveling will increase your risk of contamination
  17. Do connect virtually with your family that is not currently living in the same house with you so that you can reduce the risks of physical contact
  18. Do practice seating in a zig zag manner if you must go out to a café for a meeting so that you could avoid directly facing each other
  19. Do not host or go to birthday parties but rather host/attend virtual social events by using apps such as Zoom, Google Hangouts, Facetime, WhatsApp
  20. Do get a breath of fresh air to think about your day. Ride a bike, walk around the block, play hopscotch. Social distancing does not prevent you from staying active in your life, just keeping a reasonable distance from others and wearing a mask

Relax, you can still go into your backyard and connect to the world and nature
